Visit Arnold’s Park, Iowa and Enjoy the Music
One aspect I love about travel is finding and attending music shows. I am a huge fan of live music and my favorite genre is classic rock.
Arnolds Park Preservation Plaza at Arnolds Park, Iowa hosts numerous concerts throughout the summer. A couple of years ago, I attended the Tommy James and the Shondells concert. Check out their website for a list of upcoming music events!
It was during this concert the new Arnold’s Park Preservation Plaza was dedicated. It is a beautiful venue! How fitting that Tommy was there for the dedication, as he played at the Roof Garden in 1966 (also part of Arnold’s Park) when they dedicated that music venue. Yes, Tommy is 76. But hey, we are all getting older and he sounded great!!
One reason we attended was nostalgia. You see, many years ago, when I started dating my husband, we would listen to Tommy James and the Shondells on his ’69 Roadrunner, playing an 8-track tape! (Yep, this is the car!)
To my utmost surprise, I shook Tommy’s hand as he went out into the audience to shake hands and take pictures with concert goers. Pure luck that we were sitting in the right spot at the right time.
Perhaps, though, what I loved most was the sea of gray-haired music lovers.
If you are wondering who Tommy James and the Shondells are, I know you will recognize his music. Think Mony, Mony, which is his most popular song and him singing it on this video.
This summer they will continue with their tradition of live music acts. I am looking at going to Foreigner, keeping up with my classic rock genre.
Arnold’s Park is in the Okoboji, Iowa, area, just over the Minnesota-Iowa border. I love traveling there. The food is great and the atmosphere is better.
The Okoboji Store Bar & Kitchen lists bluegills as a fish item on their menu. I have never been to a restaurant that serves bluegills! And if you don’t know, bluegills is a common small fish in the upper Midwest.
The Arnolds Park Amusement Park is next door to Preservation Plaza so definitely another great place to visit.
When I need a day to myself, this is where I go. The atmosphere is so refreshing with the surrounding lakes.
